Pension lead generating sites
In this age of the Internet we’re blessed with the ability to research a subject of our choice at the drop of a hat, or more accurately, a click of a mouse.
So when people need pensions advice, the obvious place to go is the Web.
If you have questions relating to your pension provision you might go online to check out a few things. Maybe you land up on one of the pension calculator sites. You enter your monthly payment and get a forecast for your retirement pot. So far so good, although it takes no account of where your money is invested or what it might be expected to do. You may also have been asked to enter your email address and one or two other details.
I suppose you must trust them implicitly to hand over your details in return for a promise…
The site will tell you it needs the information to send you a report, or for an adviser to call you. The reality is that there is a huge chance that the website is simply a lead generating site, and they’ll resell your personal details on to any number of companies for up to £275 a time (see the thumbnail opposite), all of whom may start to bother you. Frequently.
