Carole had been widowed unexpectedly and didn’t know where to start when it came to managing the family’s finances. She discusses how enlisting Jones Hill’s help has enabled her to move on with life and feel more confident with her financial situation.

"Though I hadn’t been thinking finances for 42 years or so, you can pick it up, move on and spend wisely. Having Brian on board just enables you to de-stress a bit."

When I started looking at the finances I was thinking, “Oh my God, what does this mean?”. You quickly realise that this is not your thing, and that it’s much better to employ someone to do that part of your life.

It probably coincided with having the Wiltshire Times and seeing business adviser, Brian Hill: I thought, he’s in Bradford on Avon, let’s give him a ring. I spoke to Brian and he came across as a very down-to-earth guy. We then met up and it was all very helpful. He’s quite an interesting guy; he’s outdoors and ruggedy, which is what we liked. He’s very-down-to-earth and I felt he wasn’t going to rip you off or talk down to you. He just tells you how it is.

It gives you the confidence. It’s extremely stressful being widowed when you’re not expecting it. It just gives you more security and gets you thinking that yes, we can do this. Though I hadn’t been thinking finances for 42 years or so – it wasn’t my role – you can pick it up, move on and spend wisely.

Having Brian on board just enables you to de-stress a bit. You haven’t got to be worrying about the finances. With Jones Hill, what you see is what you get. They are just normal guys. I’m sure I won’t be proven wrong.
